Excerpt from the Beeer Belly Blues

Poor Fred has the Beer Belly Blues…

It’s been a long time since Fred was a high school football hero.  Since then he’s had a career and a marriage, but the untended life has a way of slowly getting out of hand.  One day you’re on the fast track to the North American dream, the next you’re in a singles condo with a rented couch and a sub-compact from the 80s, completely clueless about what went wrong.

At least, until a wake-up call arrives in the form of an invitation to your 25-year high school reunion.  As everyone does, Fred immediately ran to the mirror to assess the damage.  And that’s when it hit him, figuratively and literally, square in the gut.

Fred was easily 30 pounds overweight.  His chin had more flaps than a DC-10, his hair was retreating and his sexual mojo was a waning memory.  A doctor recently told him that his blood, based on the numbers, was as thick as a product from Heinz, but with his reunion only 12 weeks away Fred had a sneaking suspicion he’d need more than his doctor’s help to get back in shape for the reunion.  He’d need nothing short of a miracle.

Little did he know, that miracle was right around the corner.

In Beer Belly Blues, Brad King delves into the oh-so-real reality of the aging male. Follow every day Fred, who is a 40 something divorcee, as he goes from the guy suffering from fatigue, loss of lean muscle mass, decline in strength, increased body fat-especially in the belly area, has difficulty sleeping, prostate issues, is losing his hair, has an incredibly low libido, erectile dysfunction, is moody, suffers from depression, can’t remember a thing, has aching joints, cardiovascular problems, on the verge of type II Diabetes and has a low passion for life to the guy he once was—full of life, fit as a fiddle and ready to take on the world.

Unfortunately, the majority of men in North America begin to notice physical and emotional changes in their mid-30s. Research confirms that this is largely due to a drastic decline in male hormone levels – a phenomenon known as andropause. Not only do men lose approximately 10 percent of their testosterone levels each decade after age 30, by the time they are 60 they typically produce 60 percent less testosterone than they did at age 20.

But… it doesn’t have to be this way!
